REIGNING National and West African middleweight boxing champion, Nigeria’s Abolaji Rasheed a.k.a. Afonja Warrior will at 9pm on Friday, April 28 fight for the vacant Commonwealth ((British Empire) middleweight title against home boy Sam Sheedy of Great Britain.
The 12-round bout which was earlier fixed for March 18 will now hold at the Platinum Suite, Bramall Lane Football Ground, Sheffield, Yorkshire.
According to a whatsapp message sent to Tribunesport from Manchester by Bola Aiyegbeni, a boxing promoter who also is a member of Oyo state boxing association after the weigh-in held at Napoleone Casino and Restaurant on Thursday evening, Afonja Warrior is in high spirits to bring home the title.
Aiyegbeni stated that the Kwara state-born boxer is fully prepared for the bout, just as she disclosed that they are going to mobilise
Nigerians in the UK to come out en masse to support the Nigerian boxer who turned professional in 2013.
Meanwhile, Secretary-General of the Nigeria Boxing Board of Control, (NBB of C), Mr Remi Abidoye told Tribunesport by phone that his camp is in good condition for the title bout.
“We are well-prepared for the bout and with the level of training Afonja Warrior has gone through, there is no cause for alarm. He must go for a knockout because it is not going to be easy fighting an opponent before his teeming.
Home fans, but we hope for the best,” Aboderin said.
