2016 TOTAL Charity golf tournament tees off in Lagos

The 2016 edition of the annual Total Charity Golf Tournament will tee off today at the Lakowe Lakes Golf Course, Lagos.

According to a statement issued by the Deputy General Manager (Media and Public Affairs), Total, Mr Charles Ogan, the tournament is designed to raise funds to improve the infrastructure for selected charities in one of Total’s three locations in Nigeria.

The funds raised are to be rotated between the charities every year as part of Total’s social responsibility and the locations are Lagos, Port Harcourt and Abuja.

The tournament, which has been sponsored for 21 years by the NNPC/Total E&P Nigeria Joint Venture, tees off by 9:00a.m and the 2016 edition is expected to have 80 golfers from various parts of the country, following the Stable Ford format (Short Gun) and played over 18 holes.

This year, two charity homes, which provided care for abandoned, motherless and vulnerable children in the society, wouldl benefit from the special fund.

The two charity are Olive Blooms Orphanage Home Ajah and Friends of Jesus Orphanage Home, Badore, both located in the Eti Osa Local Government Area of Lagos State.

All players were expected to make voluntary donations as participating fees and the amounts raised from the voluntary donations would be added to a special fund set aside by Total and presented to the selected charity organisations.

It would be recalled that Total, in 2015, donated proceeds from the tournament to the Zaamar Institute, Abuja, a learning ability centre for children with autism, for the provision of one-on-one classrooms; two toilet facilities; a store; and some play ground equipment for the children.
