As the 6th Sovereign Trust Golf Open tees off tomorrow at the Ibadan Golf Club, Onireke, Ibadan, no fewer than 140 golfers are expected to compete in the tourney.
Captain of IGC, Barrister Idowu Salami disclosed this to Tribunesport during the press conference on Thursday, adding that all arrangements to make the golf championship a huge success have been put in place.
“This tournament began six years ago when I was the Secretary of the club and Sovereign Trust Insurance (STI) has really added values to the game of golf in the country.
“This is the sixth edition and I’m happy that STI has kept its unbroken promise of sponsorship,” Salami said.

Also, Sovereign Trust Insurance’s Head of Corporate Communications/Brand Management, Segun Bankole said sponsoring the tournament was part of the organisation’s contribution to the development of sports.
“Over time, this tournament keeps getting better and better. We are going to do something different from the last edition this time. We will be having a thorough medical checkup for at least 75 golfers, it is another responsibility because we have seen a situation where you have sportsmen collapse on the field.

“So, people think that because if one is involved in regular exercise, everything is well with one, but this body works like a machine. This is part of our corporate social responsibility activities.
“So, we are partnering with Dr Kayode Adegboyega, a consultant with Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, to carry out this medical checkup,” he said.
Meanwhile, the tournament will tee off tomorrow by 6:30am while the closing ceremony is scheduled for 5pm on Sunday.
