The Nigerian BasketBall Federation (NBBF) has invited 14 home-based players to D’Tigers camp ahead of the 2017 Men’s FIBA AfroBasket scheduled to hold from September 8 to 16 in Tunisia and Senegal.
Nigeria are the defending champions of the continental championship following their victory two years ago in Tunisia.
According to the NBBF Secretary General, Chimezie Asiegbu, the invited players are to report to camp on Wednesday, August 23 in Lagos.
The players are Abdul Yahaya (Kano Pillars); Dike Azuoma (Kano Pillars); Eli Abraham (Kano Pillars); Onyeka Okeke (Gombe Bulls);
Yakubu Sylvanus (Gombe Bulls); Victor Anthony (Rivers Hoopers); Musa Usman (Mark Mentors); Echoibi Victor (Mark Mentors); Timothy Mudiaga (Hoops & Read); Joel Ejigba (Defenders); David Godwin (Kwara Falcons); Mojuba Oyeleye (Kwara Falcons); Daalu Egbejiogwu (Raptors Academy/Lagos City Stars) and Ibrahim Olajuwon (Lagos Warriors).
Assistant coaches, Abdul Rahaman Mohammed of Gombe Bulls and Adewunmi Aderemi – Kwara Falcons are to take charge of the team pending the arrival of the team’s head coach, Alex Nwora.
Meanwhile, the list of foreign-based players, who will be camped in the United States is expected to be released by NBBF in due course.
It was however, gathered that Belgium-based Benjamin Uzoh, a member of the 2015 AfroBasket winning D’Tigers, has opted out of the squad which will defend the continental title.
