2017 AfroBasket: Tunisia dethrone Nigeria as African champions

JOINT hosts, Tunisia on Saturday before their teeming fans at the Salle Omnisport, Rades, Tunis, became the new African champions in basketball.
The Tunisians in the final of the 2017 FIBA AfroBasket championship pipped defending champions, Nigeria’s D’Tigers 77-65 to win the title for the second time, after the 2011 victory over Angola.
Nigeria’s captain, Ike Diogu emerged the man of the match as he posted 20 points, 10 rebounds, one assist, one steal and one block in a game where Ziyed Chennoufi emerged Tunisia’s top performer with 19 points,
three rebounds, three assists and one steal.
The 2015 AfroBasket winners, Nigeria, won the first quarter in the final 14-8 but the homers who enjoyed an overwhelming support took over as they won the second quarter 10-17 and the third quarter 16-27 while the last quarter ended in a stalemate 25-25.
Co-hosts of the 2017 AfroBasket, Senegal had earlier in the day clinched the bronze medal following a 73-62 victory over Morocco.
However, despite the loss, Nigeria have qualified alongside Tunisia to represent Africa at the 2018 World Cup in Spain.
Meanwhile, two Nigerians Ike Diogu and Ikenna Iroegbu alongside two Tunisians and Senegalese made the 5 All-Star Team named after the competition.
