Captain and goalkeeper of the home-based Super Eagles, Ikechukwu Ezenwa will be sidelined for three weeks after he injured his knee in Wednesday’s semi-final clash where Nigeria pipped Sudan 1-0 at the ongoing 5th African Nations Championship (CHAN).
A top official told SCORENigeria: “A scan was carried out on the player’s knee and he [Ezenwa] will be out for three weeks.”
Dele Ajiboye, who replaced Ezenwa during the semi-final tie and put up a superlative performance would be in goal again in Sunday’s final.
Meanwhile, the long injury list in the Eagles camp ahead of the final against Morocco’s Atlas Lions may grow after defender Stephen Eze and midfielder Dayo Ojo stayed out of Thursday’s training in Marrekesh.
Already, Nigeria apart from Ezenwa, will also miss the services of Daniel Itodo and Sunday Faleye on Sunday due to injury.
Eze is nursing a slight hamstring, SCORENigeria was informed by team officials, while Ojo has been complaining of a groin problem after the semi-final tie.
Towering central defender Eze, who has agreed to move to Bulgaria after the 2018 CHAN, has featured in all the five matches Nigeria have played in Morocco.
Ojo has pinned down a starting shirt since the group game against Equatorial Guinea when he scored with a rocket shot from outside the box.
Thursday’s training lasted for an hour and a half, while the Eagles left for Casablanca by road after the exercise, a trip of about two hours.
