2025 AFCON: Nigeria beat Uganda 3-1 to end group with perfect record

Nigeria closed out their group campaign at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations with a 3-1 win over Uganda on Tuesday in Fes, sealing nine points from three matches.

Paul Onuachu opened the scoring in the 28th minute after Victor Osimhen created the chance, and Raphael Onyedika added two goals in the second half.

Uganda were reduced to 10 men when Salim Jamal Magoola was sent off in the 56th minute for a handball outside the box, forcing goalkeeper Nafian Alionzi to come on.

Rogers Mato later scored a consolation for Uganda in the 75th minute.

Nigeria made several substitutions as the match progressed, including the introductions of Chigozie Awaziem, Zaidu Sanusi, Tochukwu Nnadi, and Akor Adams. Salim Fago Lawal made his competitive debut late on.

Uganda made changes of their own, including Allan Okello and Steven Mukwala, after captain Onyango struggled with fitness in the first half.

Nigeria pressed for more throughout the game, with efforts from Dele-Bashiru, Awaziem, and Onuachu going close.

The result confirms Nigeria’s top spot in the group after previous victories over Tanzania and Tunisia.
