The much-talked-about ‘Abuja Derby’ between G Medix FC and Olympic Hybrid FC will hold today at the Hovel Prime Stadium, Nyanya, Abuja, in what is expected to be the curtain-raiser for the 2025 Nationwide League One (NLO) U19 Youth League.
According to the organisers, the matches, which will hold at 16 different venues nationwide, aim to provide and give platform for young football talents to showcase their skills and propel their careers to greater heights.
NLO chief operating officer (COO, Olushola Ogunnowo, stated that the Youth League will be an electrifying showcase of grassroots football in Nigeria, adding that the season opener in Abuja will set a precedent for the thrilling encounters expected across the country.
“The NLO Youth League launches on Friday, August 8, in Abuja, featuring G Medix FC against Olympic Hybrid FC. This not only marks the League’s opening game, but we expect nothing less than exciting football in Nyanya.
“We demand to see well-organised and competitive matches from all clubs participating in the Youth League. The clubs have adhered to directives from the secretariat, but there remains room for improvement. Any actions that jeopardise the integrity of the game will not be tolerated,” Ogunnowo said.
Ogunnowo urged football lovers in Nyanya and environs to troop out in their numbers to witness thrilling grassroots football artistry and give the maximum support to both teams.
