2025 NUGA: Gov Mutfwang pledges support for sports development in Nigeria

In a bid to promote youth engagement through sports, the Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has reaffirmed his administration’s readiness to develop sports infrastructure and improve economy activities across the state.

The governor made this known in Abuja while receiving a delegation from the Chairman Royal CBS Group, Mr Khalifah Onu and his team who are the prime consultant for the forthcoming Nigerian University Games Association (NUGA) competition.

According to him, under his leadership, the state is committed to ensuring adequate security and logistical support during and after the upcoming NUGA 2025 games to guarantee a successful hosting of the tournament.

“We will ensure a secure and enabling environment for athletes and officials. Our goal is not only to successfully host the event but also to use it as a platform to promote hospitality and position Plateau as a hub for sports tourism,” the governor said.

He added that the state is already in touch with the University of Jos to facilitate preparations and ensure the smooth execution of the games.

“I guarantee you that we are committed to working with all stakeholders to deliver on this mandate and transform sports into a tool for youth empowerment,” he stated.

Governor Mutfwang also assured that the state government would provide financial support and collaborate with partners to showcase the tournament as a platform for Nigerian youths to compete and excel at national and global levels.

He further disclosed that discussions are ongoing to build synergy among relevant departments and agencies, and he has directed the General Manager of the Plateau State Tourism Corporation to lead efforts towards delivering successful outcomes from the games.

Meanwhile, Onu, in his response thanked the governor for the support and expressed readiness to provide enabling environment for the games to be hosted.

He said, “The games is not only succeed but also align with the current administration vision of youth empowerment through sports, tapping into it’s massive value chain in the country.”
