Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has congratulated Victor Osimhen after the Nigerian striker helped Galatasaray secure the Turkish Süper Lig title.
Osimhen scored twice in the decisive victory that confirmed Galatasaray as league champions, continuing his strong form for the Turkish club this season.
Reacting in a statement posted on his X handle on Monday, Obi praised the Super Eagles striker for his contribution to the title-winning campaign.

“I want to join other fans in congratulating one of Nigeria’s many talented exports, Victor Osimhen, for successfully leading Galatasaray S.K. to the Turkish Süper Lig title with a brilliant performance, scoring twice in the decisive victory that sealed the championship,” Obi said.
The former Anambra State governor described Osimhen as one of Nigeria’s leading sports ambassadors and said his performances continue to inspire young Nigerians.
“Your resilience, discipline, and talent continue to inspire millions of young Nigerians to believe in the power of hard work, dedication, and excellence.
“You have remained a proud ambassador of Nigeria on the global stage, bringing honour to our nation through your achievements and conduct. Nigerians are immensely proud of you and your continued success,” he stated.
Obi also used the opportunity to speak on the role of sports in national development, stressing that the sector has the potential to create opportunities for young people across the country.
“I have often spoken about the transformative power of sports and the immense opportunities it offers to young people,” he said.
He, however, lamented what he described as the neglect of sports development in Nigeria despite the abundance of talent available in the country.
“This is why the persistent neglect of the sector in our country is deeply regrettable. The truth is that Nigeria is blessed with countless talents like Osimhen, waiting for the right leadership, support, and environment to rise, excel, and bring glory to the nation,” Obi added.
According to him, many Nigerian youths can succeed on the global stage if they are given proper support and enabling structures.
He also reiterated his belief in the possibility of growth across different sectors in the country.
“I reiterate that a new Nigeria, where all sectors develop simultaneously for the balanced growth and health of the nation, is POssible.”
Osimhen’s latest achievement with Galatasaray adds to an impressive run in European football, where he has continued to establish himself as one of Africa’s top forwards.
