The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has reiterated its commitment to using sports as an avenue to empower the youths, saying it aligns with its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in positively engaging young Nigerians productively.
NCS’s Sports Secretary, Samuel Onikeku, said the Service’s Comptroller General, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi and the management are deliberate about keeping the youths engaged through sports, education and other developmental programmes.
According to Onikeku, the Service’s investment is not only yielding and making a lasting impact on Nigeria’s sports arena but has widened its CSR support in schools through educational interventions.
Onikeku said, “The CGC is committed to ensuring that young people are meaningfully engaged so they can contribute positively to national development. That is why the Nigeria Customs Service continues to invest in sports development.”

Speaking on the team’s readiness for the League, the NSC’s sports scribe said both the men’s and women’s teams have benefited from international engagements in Ghana, Cairo and Kigali, saying the experiences have created a lasting impact on the players’ improvement and confidence going forward.
Onikeku said the teams will continue to keep their eyes on the ball and will not be distracted but continue from where they stopped last season when the women’s team won last season’s league title without losing a single match.
He added, “Thankfully, the CGC and his management supported our teams to compete in Ghana for the women, and in Cairo and Kigali for the men. These experiences have motivated the players significantly. The female team won the league last year unbeaten. Naturally, every team now wants to challenge them, but we are prepared.”
The second vice president of the Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF), Adamu Tenimu, who also spoke with the media, said the League remains the biggest stage to showcase volleyball progression in Nigeria, adding that both home-based and those outside the shores of the country use it as a platform to display their talents and skills.
