Awodi emerges President of Para Powerlifting Federation

Kingsley James Awodi, has been elected President of the Para Powerlifting Federation of Nigeria.

Awodi secured a convincing victory, polling 12 votes out of the 12 total votes cast to emerge the winner.

Patrick Akutekwe also emerged as the vice president, securing all 12 votes cast.

Speaking shortly after his election, Awodi pledged to take para powerlifting in Nigeria to greater heights by bringing together experienced professionals and top talents from within the country and beyond, as he assured stakeholders of his administration’s commitment to strengthening the federation, enhancing athlete development and positioning Nigeria as a dominant force in international para powerlifting.

He said, “I am deeply honoured by the confidence reposed in me to serve as President of the Nigeria Para-Powerlifting Federation. I congratulate my fellow board members on our election.

“This is a call to national duty, and I look forward to leading an inclusive board where everyone will be carried along as we work together to move our federation forward.

“I sincerely thank the National Sports Commission for providing the enabling environment that made this election possible. We look forward to working closely with the Commission for the continued growth of our sport.

“Our administration will be deliberate in discovering and developing new talents by organising more Para Open Trials, especially as some of our athletes are approaching the latter stages of their careers.

“Our goal is to continue producing world-class athletes who will make Nigeria proud on the global stage.

“Most importantly, we are committed to introducing impactful reforms that will positively affect our athletes and further strengthen the federation. We also aim to inject fresh talents who will continue to fly Nigeria’s flag proudly across the world.

“I seek the support of all stakeholders as we work together to drive greater growth and development in para powerlifting in Nigeria.”
