Manchester United have completed the signing of Belgium midfielder, Youri Tielemans, from Aston Villa after triggering his £35 million release clause.
The 29-year-old has signed a five-year contract at Old Trafford and becomes United’s latest midfield addition following the arrival of Andrey Santos. He will wear the No. 18 shirt vacated by Casemiro, who left the club at the end of last season.
Tielemans joins United after three seasons with Aston Villa, having previously established himself as one of the Premier League’s top midfielders during his spell at Leicester City.
“It’s hard to describe just how proud I am to join Manchester United,” Tielemans said.
“Signing for such a special club feels incredible.

“It is the culmination of years of dedication since I first fell in love with football.”
United’s director of football, Jason Wilcox, welcomed the midfielder, describing him as one of the league’s most consistent performers.
“Youri has consistently been one of the most outstanding midfielders in the Premier League throughout the past seven years,” Wilcox said.
“He has all of the technical qualities, as well as the ambition and mentality, to thrive at Manchester United.
“Youri’s consistency is exceptional, and he will add further composure, creativity and leadership to our squad.”
Tielemans arrives with extensive experience despite still being in his 20s. The former Anderlecht and Monaco midfielder has made 668 senior appearances for club and country, scoring 79 goals, including 15 in 90 appearances for Belgium.
He recently helped Belgium reach the quarter-finals of the 2026 FIFA World Cup before missing their defeat to Spain after suffering an injury during the pre-match warm-up.
His honours include scoring Leicester City’s winning goal in the 2021 FA Cup final against Chelsea and helping Aston Villa lift the Europa League title earlier this year.
Tielemans becomes United’s third senior signing of the summer after Santos and goalkeeper Karl Darlow, while the club’s proposed move for Atalanta midfielder Ederson remains on hold.
