World record holder Yakubu Adesokan and 10 other Nigerian lifters are already in Mexico to participate in the World Powerlifting Championships scheduled to hold from November 28 to December 9.
Adesokan is to feature in the 49kg as the three other male lifters on the trip are Ezurike Roland 54kg (World Record Holder), Kehinde Paul 65kg (World Record Holder) and Nnamdi Innocent 72kg.
The seven female lifters are: Tijani Latifat 45kg, Ejike Lucy 61kg (World Record Holder), Ibrahim Olaitan 67kg, Nwosu Ndidi 73kg, Omolayo Bose 79kg, Obiji Loveline 86kg (World Record Holder) and Oluwafemiayo Folashade 86kg.
The officials are the Nigeria Para Powerlifting president, Sunlola Johnson and the secretary general, Abulugbe Dayo, the two coaches, Igbiti Patience (female) and Ibeh Luke (male), the two helpers, Ajala
Omowumo (female) and Godwin Nwaezeam – helper/loader (male)and the team doctor, Ogunkunle Ekundayo.
According to a press release signed by the Acting General Manager of the Oyo State Sports Council, Gboyega Makinde, he charged Adesokan to as usual put in his best at the championships which serve qualifiers for the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Australia as well as Japan 2020 Paralympic Games.
Adesokan, a powerlifting coach/athlete of the Oyo State Sports Council, set a world record in powerlifting at London 2012 Paralympics.
Meanwhile, the Oyo State Golf Association will on Wednesday open its practising Range at the Lekan Salami Sports Complex, Ibadan, in the bid to introduce golf as a sport among secondary schools in the state.
