The Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Sports, Honourable Ekene Abubakar Adams, has lauded the Super Eagles for reaching the knockout stages of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast.
According to him, the boys are on the right path after beating Guinea-Bissau in their final group game.
Abubakar Adams, who represents Chikun/Kajuru Federal Constituency in the green chamber of the National Assembly, while charging the team to sustain the momentum and remain focused as the competition progresses
said the three-time African champions have continued to improve with every game.
“I wish to congratulate our gallant Super Eagles for reaching the knockout stage of the AFCON with a 1-0 win over Guinea Bissau.
“Clearly, African football has improved and there are no more minnows. Who would have thought that Equatorial Guinea would thrash Ivory Coast?
“No one saw Cape Verde topping their group ahead of Ghana and Egypt. In fact, the Black Stars have been eliminated while the hosts are on the brink.
“Despite the numerous injury setbacks, our team have progressed. They are improving with every game and the ultimate is to win the competition.
“The lads have shown patriotism, dedication and commitment to their fatherland. They are on the right track and I wish them well.
“Therefore, I want to charge to continue on this path. We are just four games away from winning the title. Let’s do it again Eagles.”
The Jose Peseiro-led team will trade tackles with the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon in the round of 16 in Abidjan on Saturday for a place in the quarter-finals.
