The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has appreciated Nigerians for the support given to the senior national football team, the Super Eagles, during the just-concluded African Cup of Nations (AFCON), which was held in Morocco from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026.
NFF Secretary General, Dr Mohammed Sanusi, in an interview with Sporting Tribune, said the target for Nigeria competing in the AFCON was the trophy, having played in the final two years ago in Cote d’Ivoire.
The NFF scribe stated that the Federation always go into competitions with the mindset to win and not to make up the numbers. He stated that the boys gave their best to achieve that, but fate had another thing in store for them.
“Let me start by thanking Nigerians for the maximum support they gave to the technical crew and the players during AFCON, and we did not take that for granted.
“The players gave their best, and the target was the trophy because we played in the final two years ago in Côte d’Ivoire, but we all saw what happened.
“Like I always say, our mindset going into competitions is to win it and not to make up the numbers. We are not happy that we didn’t win the trophy again this time.
“But surely, our eyes are still on the trophy, and we want to assure Nigerians that this will be achieved very soon. We are not going to rest on our oars in achieving this by the special grace of God, and once again, we want to thank Nigerians for their support,” Sanusi said.
