AFCON: Musa trains in Eagles’ camp

Super Eagles captain, Ahmed Musa, on Monday trained for the first time with teammates in the camp ahead of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) which begins next Sunday in Cameroon.

The Fatih Karagumruk of Turkey winger trained at the MKO Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, with other 13 players who have so far reported to the camp, as interim head coach, Austin Eguavoen, may be having sleepless nights over the situation as the team is set to leave for Cameroon after tomorrow’s training session.

No fewer than 14 players were still being expected in the camp as of the time of this report.

Others who took part in the workout were goalkeepers Maduka Okoye, Daniel Akpeyi, John Noble and Francis Uzoho, defenders Zaidu Sanusi, Chidozie Awaziem and Olisa Ndah, strikers Chidera Ejuke, Peter Olayinka, Taiwo Awoniyi, Henry Onyekuru, Moses Simon and Sadiq Umar.

One hour into the training session, Alanyaspor centre back, Awaziem trained solely and the former Porto star was being put through his paces by the Super Eagles’ physiotherapist while his teammates were sweating it out on the pitch.

Awaziem is expected to play a key role at 2021 AFCON as Glasgow Rangers star, Leon Balogun, has been ruled out of the tournament with an injury.

The Super Eagles are yet to hold a proper training session as a result of the number of players in the camp for the tournament scheduled to kick off on January 9.

Meanwhile, Awaziem, believes that the Super Eagles would not disappoint in Cameroon.

“It has been a wonderful atmosphere in the camp. We are preparing with the few players in camp and training sessions have been good, everyone is giving his best and the coach is doing a good job.

“We are hoping to get more players as soon as possible so we can have a full team and prepare for the Africa Cup of Nations properly.

“It’s the new year and everyone is positive, we believe we can achieve something great this year,” the 2019 AFCON bronze medallist told NFF TV.
