African clubs set to battle as CAFCL, CAFCC enters quarter-final stage

This weekend marks the beginning of the quarter-final stage for Africa’s top club competitions, the CAF Champions League (CAFCL) and CAF Confederation Cup (CAFCC).

Among the top clubs participating is Rivers United, based in Port Harcourt. The first leg journey of the quarter-finals starts on Friday evening with ES Tunis of Tunisia making their way to Algeria to face JS Kabylie, aiming for a third Champions League medal.

On Saturday, Simba AC of Tanzania plays against reigning champions Wydad AC, while South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns takes on Algeria’s CR Belouizdad. In a corresponding tie, Al Ahly, who hold the record for the most wins in the competition, welcome Raja CA.

On Sunday, Rivers United plays against Tanzanian champions Young Africans SC. Egyptian side Pyramids FC takes on South Africa’s Marumo Gallants, US Monastir of Tunisia plays against Ivorian side ASEC Mimosas, and the quarter-finals round up with Algeria’s USMA taking on AS FAR of Morocco, who are aiming for their second CAF Confederation Cup title.

Many of the participating teams are aiming to advance beyond the quarter-final stage, and football fans across Africa will be eagerly following the outcomes of these high-stakes matches.
