A renowned sports marketer, Mr Akin Alabi has advised sports administrators in Nigeria to be transparent to drive the sector forward.
According to the Chief Executive Officer of Nairabet, sports administrators must have profitable programmes which the investors can key in.
“No investor will put his money in a venture that will not yield any gain. Sports administrators must be honest and transparent to attract sponsorships and investments. “There should a working structure on the ground and trust between administrators and potential investors,” Alabi said while delivering a lecture on sports marketing on Thursday at the Media Centre of the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium, Ibadan, as part of activities to mark the 2016 Oyo SWAN Week.
He stressed that modern times marketing breathes life into sports, transforming it to a lucrative business.
Alabi disclosed that his business relationship with Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) will continue as the club is dear to him.
Meanwhile, Oyo State Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Mr Abayomi Oke revealed that his ministry is working on a blue print that would facilitate sports development in the state and attract massive investments into the sector.
Also speaking at the event, the Coordinator, Federal Ministry of Sports, South West, Zone 2, Dr Steve Olarinoye, described marketing as the driving force and soul of sports.
The chairman, Oyo State chapter of the Sports Writers of Nigeria (SWAN), Mr Niyi Alebiosu, hailed Alabi for his immense support for 3SC and SWAN as a body.
