Al-Merreikh of Sudan’s Kelechi Osunwa is confident his side can upturn a 3-0 deficit when they take on Rivers United in the second leg of the CAF Champions League this weekend.
Osunwa, who left the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) 12 years ago from Dolphins FC of Port Harcourt, told AOIfootball.com that Al-Merreikh lost because they were overwhelmed by Rivers United’s fans.
“Well, you know how Port Harcourt is; we don’t really have fans in Nigeria but I was overwhelmed with the crowd that came. In the past, when we used to play in the Champions League, we had such fans but in league games and friendlies you don’t see such crowd. It was amazing to see the whole stadium filled up with people dancing and singing.
“Well, I can’t compare here to Sudan because in Sudan the fans are diehard supporters of football. So I’m confident that in the return leg, our fans can also help us overturn the game against Rivers United,” said Osunwa.
