The chairperson, Netball game, Oyo state chapter, Ambassador Romoke Ayinde is set to resuscitate and unveil the netball game in the state.
The unveiling of the game which will take place on Wednesday 18th of October is sponsored by SAO Petroleum, while the event will also witness exhibition matches to commemorate the event.
Speaking at a press conference held in Ibadan on Thursday, Ayinde revealed that all is set to reactivate netball games in Oyo state and Nigeria which according to her has been in the doldrums since 1973.
Ayinde who is also the founder, Kayromlee Gymn& Fitness Center stated that the game will be kickstarted with girl child in a bid to encourage more participation of girl-child in sports, adding that male participants would be engaged consequently.
She added that the sport is meant to provide job opportunities for youths and as well help reduce thuggery and other criminal activities in society.
Ayinde further stated that the event which will incidentally take place on her birthday will also witness the launch of a laboratory for science students in Oyo state and as well witness the launch of two of her books.
She said “It is with great pleasure that I stand before you to inform you of our noble objective geared towards reactivating the netball games in our country which has been in the doldrums since 1973 when it was rested either by omission or commission. It may interest you to know that netball game is an international game which has brought many people who had been poor to opulence and limelight.
“It has also provided job opportunities for many teeming youth who otherwise would have been jobless and useless if they did not join the horde of miscreants and hoodlums in the society. In addition, it is a game that can provide recreational activities for those whose jobs are sedentary and require exercises to make themselves fit and agile.
“In view of the foregoing, I implore you gentlemen of the press to join me in the task of bringing the game to the consciousness of an average man on the street so that we can all leverage its popularity which would mean eradicating delinquency and thuggery and joblessness to an extent. Your cooperation is needed because together we can create more stars through netball games besides eradicating criminality in our society while making them gainfully engaged,” she concluded
She, however, appreciated the Nigeria Netball Federation, Oyo state government and the Ministry of Youth and Sports as well as other stakeholders who have provided support that has translated to the extent of success we have witnessed so far.
Also speaking Chairman SAO Petroleum Salmon Oladiti pledged to give full support to the success of the game in the state.
Oladiti who was represented by the Managing Director, SAO Oil and Gas, Adewunmi Oladiti stated that the organisation which is committed to giving back to society is ready to support talented ones in a way to take them to the next level.
Oladiti noted that as the game is still new in the state, it is a great thing the organisation and the NNF is coming together to promote the game.
Speaking, one of the facilitators of the game, Lanre Akanji explained that the promotion of the sport is necessary in Nigeria that champion sport all over the world.
He added that the unveiling of the netball game is not only meant to excel but also meant to dominate and rule the world.
