Minister for Sports Development, Senator John Owan Enoh, has commended the organiser of the Sportmeettech for coming up with an idea that he said is in tandem with the agenda of the Federal Government.
Speaking through a representative from the ministry, Mrs Iyeneme Johnson, the minister said the topic chosen by the organisers ‘How Sport Technology Can Contribute Towards President Tinubu Target Of Training 1 Million Technical Youth Talents By 2025’, could not have been more appropriate and come at a better time when Nigeria is working under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu to chart a sustainable course for total emancipation.
According to the minister, the importance of sport to the development of the country cannot be overemphasised.
“Sports cuts across all sectors and stand as the most effective unifier of various aspects of life and livelihood. it engenders economic growth, contributes to health and healthy living and silently but efficiently tackles unrest and all forms of crimes as well as criminal intentions.
“Sports guarantee peace, even in times of disagreement as opposing forces will always sit peacefully to watch the competition between contenders of their choice.”
Speaking on technology as it relates to sports, the minister said, “In the world, progress is very difficult if not impossible without technology, we are witnesses to the speed at which technology is advancing every facet of human being. The technology giants of our time have consistently embarked on training to empower our youth in various endeavours.
“As you have gathered here to articulate ways of achieving the mandate for today’s gathering, I wish you successful deliberation. We shall be waiting for your communique and recommendations.”
