ACTIONS at the 17th Governor’s Cup Lagos Tennis Championship end today with final of the men’s singles between Johan Sebastien Tatlot of France and Pedja Krstin of Serbia.
Number seven seed Tatlot, upset top seed, Indian Prajnesh Gunneswaran 6-3, 7-6 while number three seed Pedja recorded another upset when he conquered number two seed, Egyptian Karim-Mohamed Maamoun in another semi-final tie decided on Friday.
The Futures 5 men’s singles final scheduled to serve off at 3pm on the centre court of the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club, Onikan, is to be graced by the Lagos State governor, Mr Akinwumi Ambode, who would lead members of the state executive council to the venue.
In the women’s singles final of the International Tennis Federation (ITF) approved pro-circuit, winner of the Futures 4 last weekend, Deniz Khazaniuk of Israel faces Conny Perrin of Switzerland prior to the men’s final.
Khazaniuk had in the semi-final defeated Ayla Aksu of Turkey
6-4, 5-7, 6-2 as Perrin hammered Estelle Casino of France 6-1 6-3.
Meanwhile, Tournament Director, Prince Wale Oladunjoye said that this year’s tournament has lived up to expectations with record number of entries received across the world.
Oladunjoye stated that logistics have been put in place to ensure a fun-filled finals to be graced also by secondary school students in the metropokis, among others.
