The forward has scored five times in four Premier League games against the Gunners
HARRY KANE returned after a seven week absence to earn Tottenham a share of the spoils at Arsenal.
The striker stepped up to convert a penalty five minutes into the second half to cancel out Kevin Wimmer’s earlier own goal to seal a 1-1 draw.
Despite Spurs’ impressive first-half display they found found themselves behind minutes before the break, after Kevin Wimmer headed Mesut Ozil’s deep freekick into the back of his own net.
Controversy surrounded the goal because two Arsenal players were offside as the defender scored the own goal, with pundits at half-time arguing the two Arsenal men were affecting play.
Spurs were quick out of the blocks after the interval and equalised on 51 minutes after Laurent Koscielny gave away a penalty for tripping Moussa Dembele, with Kane scoring the resulting penalty.
Christian Eriksen hit the post from a free-kick which he crossed in and Eric Dier was inches from heading the ball past Petr Cech.
After a frenetic finish, Arsenal missed the chance to go top of the league, whilst Tottenham have maintained their unbeaten start to the Premier League.
FACTS, STATS, GOALS & LOLS
- Heading into the game, Arsenal were winless in their last four North London derbies having drawn three and lost one. Arsene Wenger had never gone five matches without tasting victory over their great rivals until today.
- Spurs had not kept a clean sheet in their last 14 Premier League games against the Gunners prior to kick off – and that figure is now at 15. It’s the club’s longest current run without a clean sheet against a specific side.
- Mauricio Pochettino threw Harry Kane straight back into his side following his long absence through injury – and few could blame him. The striker has now bagged five times in four Premier League matches against Arsenal.
- Kane is now Spurs’ joint-top scorer against Arsenal in Premier League derbies alongside Gareth Bale.
- The only other man to score five in this fixture, a certain Thierry Henry. Kane’s in some good company.
- This was only the second time that Poch had started a game with three central defenders since his arrival at White Hart Lane. The only previous occasion was the 2-1 away win at Watford last season.
- It was the first start of the season for Kevin Wimmer – but the Austrian defender will soon want to forget about his day. The Spurs man was booked after only six minutes and then scored an own goal to give Arsenal the lead.
- Wimmer is only the second player ever to score an own goal in a Premier League North London derby. The other was ex-Spurs striker Chris Armstrong back in March 2000.
- Despite falling behind, the visitors will not have been too worried. The team who scored first has failed to win a Premier League meeting between these two 23 times, a record in the modern top-flight. That has now been stretched to 24 matches.
- Kane’s strike was the 139th goal scored between these two in the PL era. That makes it the highest scoring fixture since the league’s inception.
