Arsene Wenger admits concerns over Granit Xhaka’s discipline ahead of North London derby

Ahead what promises to be another typically fiery contest at the Emirates Wenger has ordered the £34million man to keep his head

Arsene Wenger had admitted to concerns over Granit Xhaka ‘s discipline ahead of crunch North London derby clash with Tottenham this weekend.

The Swiss summer arrival is only just back from a three-game suspension after his red card against Swansea but picked up a booking against Ludogorets in Europe in midweek.

And ahead what promises to be another typically fiery contest at the Emirates Wenger has ordered the £34million man to keep his head.

“I’ve no specific idea what I’ll do (with the starting XI) but i am concerned (with his discipline) yes,” he said at his weekly press conference.

“Discipline is important and we want to be effective in the situations we face in a derby.

“I think he’s quite a composed and calm guy, sometimes on the field the reaction is a bit impulsive.

“He needs to work on that and his control in the game.”

Wenger is sweating on the fitness of five players ahead of Sunday.

Wenger could be without his two left-backs while three other players face a race to be fit.

Kieran Gibbs filled in for Nacho Monreal in the Gunners’ 3-2 win over Ludogorets on Tuesday night but has injured his shoulder while Monreal faces a late fitness test.

Wenger said: “Santi Cazorla still hasn’t trained since picking up an Achilles problem – he’ll try and practice today and we’ll go from there.”

Theo Walcott and Hector Bellerin were also described as “uncertainties”.
