Arsene Wenger makes admission over Arsenal’s controversial winner against Burnley

ARSENE WENGER admits his Arsenal side were “fortunate” in their win at Burnley.

Laurent Koscielny bundled home a controversial late winner with what appeared to be his elbow to secure a 1-0 win for the Gunners at Turf Moor.

And Wenger acknowledges there was a hint of luck about the goal, which could have also been ruled out for offside.

“I invite you to sit on the bench, it’s impossible to know,” said the Frenchman.

“I was fuming because we played a short corner, it looked to me like we were at the end of the two minutes – why did we not take a direct corner?

“And I didn’t see the ball going in. But I’ve been told, yes, by the television, that we were a bit fortunate to have the goal allowed.”

The result moves Arsenal up to third in the Premier League table, one point adrift of Tottenham and two behind leaders Manchester City.

Up next for Wenger’s men is the visit of Swansea after the international break.
