Roberto Di Matteo sacked as Aston Villa boss after four months in charge

ROBERTO DI MATTEO has been sacked as Aston Villa manager.

Di Matteo won just one of his 11 Championship games at Villa as the Villans find themselves 19th in the league.

And Villa owner Tony Xia has had enough, axing the Italian this morning.

Villa released a club statement announcing they had ‘parted company’ with Di Matteo.

The statement read: “Aston Villa Football Club has today parted company with manager Roberto Di Matteo.

“The Club decided to act following a run of disappointing results which has the left the team occupying 19th position in the Championship.

“The Club would like to place on record its appreciation to Roberto for all his efforts in helping rebuild the squad and wish him well for the future.”

Villa assistant manager Steve Clarke will now take over as caretaker manager during the search for a new boss.
