Balogun wanted by Huddesfield

Huddersfield have reportedly begun talks with Mainz defender Leon Balogun over a potential summer switch.

The German-born Nigeria international joined Mainz from Darmstadt in 2015 but he is yet to sign fresh terms and will be available on a free at the end of the campaign.

Balogun’s contractual situation means he is free to speak with other clubs before the summer window opens and Huddersfield are keen to take advantage.

It’s understood that Terriers boss David Wagner has sent scouts to watch the versatile defender, who can play in the centre or on the right, and a summer switch is on the cards.

Wagner is hoping to strengthen his backline, which has conceded 56 goals this season, although he is still unsure as to what division they will be playing in next term.

The 29-year-old has only started 14 times in the Bundesliga in 2017-18 and move away may be tempting if he is guaranteed more gametime.
