The Nou Camp boss is furious after his set-piece routines were published in a Spanish newspaper
Barcelona head coach Luis Enrique has stepped up his search for a ‘mole’ in the dressing room after recent stories about the club found their way into the national media.
The 46-year-old is reportedly fuming that a series of stories have emerged stemming from conversations and meetings within the club’s training ground and changing room, with the straw that broke the camel’s back coming when Mundo Deportivo published original documents detailing Barca’s set-piece plans and opposition analysis from their Champions League clash with Borussia Moenchengladbach.
Recent leaks have only served to further strain Luis Enrique’s already testy relationship with the local press in Catalunya, which has led to several tense face-offs in the media room of the Camp Nou and grounds around La Liga.
The Barca boss considers any leaks from his private conversations a “betrayal” according to SPORT , above all because the documents published should only have been available to his closest circle.
But this isn’t the first time that the Nou Camp club has struggled with stories getting out.
Indeed, Louis van Gaal – the manager who was so paranoid about rivals spying on Man United training that he had a fence erected at Carrington – contracted security companies to sweep for bugs and listening devices during his time as Barca manager.
The searches, unsurprisingly, turned up no such subterfuge.
There was at least some good news for Luis Enrique on Wednesday as Lionel Messi returned to training for the first time since picking up an injury last month.
The Argentina star is expected to play some minutes against Deportivo La Coruña before a full return against Manchester City.
