The young talent chose Real Madrid's project.
HAVING recently made his Real Madrid deal official, Vinicius Junior is the man of the hour in Brazil. ‘Globoesporte’ spoke to one of his agents in a very insightful interview.
Frederico Pena, who handles the footballer’s rights, announced that Barcelona wanted to sign the Brazilian wonderkid, and that the Catalans made a larger offer.
‘There were other clubs that were not Madrid who offered more money. For example, Barcelona’s proposal was superior in the player’s earnings. But because we had reached an agreement with Real, we did not want to force them into upping their offer. Vinicius wanted to play for Madrid’, the youngster’s representative explained.
He also made clear that neither he nor his family pushed the player into making any kind of decision: ‘It was all without controversy or fights. For the player it was important to realise a dream. His will prevailed and he preferred Real Madrid’s project. It did not have much to do with money’.
Finally, he recognised the risks involving the signing: ‘Real Madrid could have signed Griezmann or Mbappe in the next transfer window, that is clear… but the future could not be predicted. The decision had to be taken then’.
