Barcelona plan shock swoop for United star

Barcelona are reportedly planning a move to bring Marcus Rashford to the Camp Nou.

Reports in Spain claim that Spanish giants Barcelona, fresh from the signing of Borussia Dortmund’s Ousman Dembele, are plotting a surprise swoop for one of Jose Mourinho’s star players.

Spanish publication ‘Sport’ reports that the Catalans are planning a move for 19-year-old Marcus Rashford as they look to secure a long-term replacement for Uruguayan hitman Luis Suarez as he moves into his fourth decade.

Rashford burst onto the scene during the 2015/16 season, scoring two goals on both his Europa League and Premier League debuts, before following that up with a goal on his first start for England.

However, it is unlikely that any move will take place before Thursday’s transfer deadline, with Ernesto Valverde’s side preferring to firm up their interest next summer.

Any potential exit for Rashford would go down like a lead balloon at Old Trafford, where he has become a firm fans’ favourite since breaking into the first team squad.

Nevertheless, United boss Jose Mourinho is unliklely to want to part with the player, who made 53 appearances for the Portuguese last season and who has started two of United’s opening three games of the new Premier League season.
