Barcelona has reached an agreement with former Portuguese midfielder Deco to assume the role of sporting director at Camp Nou.
Barça is expected to undergo significant changes this summer, as current director Jordi Cruyff has been confirmed to leave at the end of the season, along with Mateu Alemany, who will join Unai Emery at Aston Villa.
With a vacancy in Barcelona’s hierarchy, Deco, who maintains a good relationship with President Joan Laporta, is being considered for the position. Deco previously played for the club for four seasons, making over 150 appearances and winning La Liga twice as well as the Champions League before his transfer to Chelsea in 2008.

Sources indicate that Barça was impressed by Deco’s involvement in Raphinha’s transfer from Leeds United last summer. The Brazilian winger arrived for a fee of around £55 million and, despite being linked with a potential exit in the upcoming transfer window, has expressed his desire to stay at the club.

Deco’s appointment would also be significant for two key figures at Barcelona: manager Xavi and Lionel Messi. Xavi has been informed of Deco’s imminent return and is pleased to see his former teammate back at the club.
Furthermore, Deco shares a close relationship with current Paris Saint-Germain forward Messi, who is strongly leaning towards a return to Catalonia. Barcelona is highly confident in their ability to announce Messi’s signing soon, despite interest from Saudi Arabian club Al Hilal, who have attempted to enter the bidding.
The Argentine World Cup winner is inclined to reunite with his former club, and Deco’s arrival serves as another indication of Barcelona’s preparations for Messi’s homecoming.
Club president Laporta recently stated that Barcelona and Messi have “recovered” their relationship and added that they will do everything possible to bring the superstar back to the club.
