The Belgium international wants to play more regularly with this summer’s World Cup in mind and is resigned to a place on the bench should he stay at Stamford Bridge.
Sevilla have approached Chelsea about a loan while West Ham also have a long-held interest but the prospect of playing for Dortmund would appeal.
Chelsea will not let him go without finding at least one replacement. They remain keen on West Ham’s Andy Carroll, a deal that has been discussed since before Christmas, but they have yet to make a formal offer that comes close to West Ham’s valuation.
Richmond Boakye, the Red Star Belgrade striker they watched earlier this season, was considered as another target but has not been discussed in recent weeks.
Dortmund had considered Olivier Giroud, who they targeted in the summer, as a replacement for Aubameyang but that has not moved on so far.
Batshuayi is considered more mobile and a more natural replacement for Aubameyang though the Gabon international is certainly more prolific having scored 21 goals in 23 games this season.
Arsenal are closer to agreeing terms with Henrikh Mkhitaryan from Manchester United as Alexis Sanchez prepares to head in the other direction but talks are still to advance over Malcom at Bordeaux.
Theo Walcott will be announced as an Everton player before the weekend.
