Beveren of Belgium winger, Ismaheel Taofeek, looks forward to receiving a call-up to the Olympic Eagles who are set for the final round of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Guinea.
Taofeek shone like a star when Beveren came from behind to spank Lierse 5-1 on Sunday at the Herman Vanderpoorten Stadion in a Belgian League.
The Oyo State-born winger who lasted the full duration of the game said he is eager to wear Nigeria’s colours saying he would work harder to make it happen.
“I’ve been training hard and I do follow their style of play from my base. I’m optimistic that I will deliver if given the opportunity to play for the U23 team.
“I’m doing well with my club here in Belgian league and I’m improving which I believe could earn me a call-up to the national team,” he said.
Meanwhile, Taofeek submitted that Lierse gave them a match despite the goal margin victory of his team.
“Lierse were a complicated opponent,” the former Fredrikstad FK of Norway player told the media after the game. “But we remained calm and I think we deserved the win.
“We came out with a very good attitude. We knew it was important to get victory.”
Taofeek who is on loan from FC Lorient has provided three assists from nine league games this season.
“I feel better with each game, but I know what I can offer and I’m aware that I can still make improvements. Let me say that I’m only at 60 per cent…”
“Now we have two tough games coming up, but I’m hopeful. We are working as a team and everyone is giving their all.”
Challenger Pro League table toppers, Beveren have 27 points from 13 games.
