Nigeria’s Folashade Lawal Rafiatu on Sunday set a new Commonwealth Games record in Women’s 59kg category at the ongoing games in Birmingham as she dedicated the victory to people of Oyo State.
The Oyo State athlete created the record with 206kg in Women’s 59kg category at The NEC, Hall 1.
Rafiatu wins women’s 59kg category by lifting 90kg in the Snatch and Clean & Jerk: 115, 115, 116kg with result of 206kg.
Speaking after the medal presentation with Sportingtribune, an highly elated Rafiatu having expressed appreciation to the Minister of Youth and Sports, Sunday Dare for his fatherly and words of encouragement, thanked her coach for believing in her.

She said: “I want to dedicate the victory and success to my people back home in Oyo State for the support given to me and the entire Nigerians for their support and I want to state here that it was a little bit tough but due to my determination to excel, I was able to achieve this and I cannot but continue to thank my coach for believing in me.
“Also the Minister who has always been playing the role of a father, his words of encouragement really pushed me this far and I am hoping to do more for my fatherland,” she said.
