FORMER Executive Committee member of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Dr Amos Adamu, has congratulated Amaju Pinnick on his election into the executive of the continent’s highest football-ruling body.
Pinnick won a seat on the CAF Executive Committee following the election that took place in Ethiopia recently and Adamu, while congratulating the NFF president, said the victory “was hard fought.”
While praying that Pinnick’s election will turn into a blessing for Nigeria, Adamu admonished the Nigeria Football Federation president to close ranks with all stakeholders, not leaving out those who did not support him during electioneering, in the interest of football.
“He should not see anyone as his enemies, election is like that. The most important thing is that he has won, he should bring everybody together for progress,” Adamu told Tribunesport.
Speaking on the election of Ahmad Ahmad as the new CAF president, the former sole administrator of the Nigeria Football Association said though he was not given a chance at the polls, the Malagasy was able to scale through because he was focused.
Ahmad’s circumstance, he recalled, was similar to his when he was campaigning for election into the CAF Executive Committee and he (Adamu) was told that he could not win.
“I remember when I was going for my election, they said they would not vote for me, but I won. When you are campaigning and focused, you can win,” Adamu said.
However, he also advised Ahmad to live up to expectation at the helm in CAF by ensuring that at least he maintains the high standard which he said the former president Issa Hayatou has set, if he cannot surpass it.
