CAF Champions League: Ajayi leads Ahly to another war

Nigerian junior international, Junior Oluwafemi Ajayi and his team mates at Al Ahly face an uphill task tonight as they face Etoile Sportive du Sahel in a return leg tie of the CAF Champions League.

The Tunisians won the first leg 2-1 in Sousse, thus need a draw at Alexandria’s Borg El-Arab Stadium to edge out the eight-time African champions.

Former Nigeria’s U23 star, Ajayi, who has netted 14 goals for the Red Devils so far, would be aiming at reigniting his explosive form to help Ahly advance to the final.

The former Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) striker, on Monday scored  and provided two assists in the 4-1 drubbing of Al Ragga in a domestic game which served as their final build-up to tonight’s showdown with Etoile.

Already, Ahly are to miss the services of midfielder Hossam Ashour tonight due to a knee injury.

Ahly it will be recalled, eliminated another Tunisian giants, Esperance in the competition and only a clear win tonight will see them in the final of the glamorous continental showpiece.

Meanwhile, Ahly coach Hossam El-Badry has called on their teeming supporters to rally behind the team.

Ahly had won two domestic games (Ittihad 2-0 and Al Ragaa 4-1) ahead of tonight’s showdown at Alexandria, and Hossam counts on home support to grab the final ticket.

“I am sure fan support on Sunday [today] will ease our mission to snatch the qualifying ticket,” the 57-year-old told Ahly’s official website.
