CAF Cup: Chukwu urges Rangers to remain focused

Rangers International FC of Enugu Technical Director, Christian Chukwu has urged the club to remain focused in spite of its 1-1 draw with CS Sfaxien in Tunisia on Wednesday night.

Chukwu gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Enugu.

The result meant that Enugu Rangers remain top of Group B of the CAF Confederation Cup on points with CS Sfaxien but ahead on goal difference.

This is because Etoile du Sahel was held to a goalless draw by Salitas in the other group.

Rangers will take on Etoile du Sahel in their third CAF Confederation Cup group game on February 24 at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu.

Chukwu said what Rangers needed now was how to come top in the group matches because both teams stood the chance of going beyond the group stage.

“’We are all happy that the team was able to pull a draw and not losing. It is a good outing.

“The group is still open, so, we are not going to give up or start neglecting other teams in the group because we pull a draw against C S Sfaxien.

“’Rangers prepare for every match as it comes because all the teams stand the chance of making it beyond the group stage.

“Our aim is to be the champions of each tournament we ventured into and this is just the beginning because we still have lot of matches to play,” he said.

The technical director noted that the club learnt its lesson from its 2013 ouster by Sfaxien.

According to Chukwu, 2013 has come and gone and the team is not afraid of any team because it has all it takes to succeed.

The club’s Media Officer, Norbert Okolie, said that the result against Sfaxien was a good one for the club.

He noted that the club under the management of Davidson Owumi would leave no room for poor outing.

“It is not a bad idea if we end up wining the Confederation Cup for the first time in the history of the country and the club,” Okolie said.
