Cech rules out Chelsea return as he fights for Gunners starting spot

Petr Cech has ruled out making a return to Chelsea by insisting he wants to stay and fight for his place at Arsenal.

Cech is one of the keepers on Chelsea’s short-list to replace Thibaut Courtois, who will complete a £35.5m move to Real Madrid as long as the Blues find another goalie first.

Chelsea have been considering a number of candidates, including Kasper Schmeichel and Gianluigi Donnarumma.

But with Cech having less than 12 months left on his contract and Arsenal spending £22m to buy Bernd Leno from Bayer Leverkusen, the 36-year-old looked like a cheap option.

The Czech international won 13 major trophies at Chelsea between 2004-15 before joining Arsenal for £10m but is not planning to make a switch back to west London.

He said: “I have a contract with Arsenal and the club is still counting on me so far. My position here is the same as always. I am just concentrating on my job and trying to keep the number one jersey in the starting line-up.

“It has happened many times in my career that my club has signed a new goalkeeper. The only thing you can do is work hard in training and try to show the manager that you are the only one who can play.
