Raheem Sterling must wait until the summer before talks over a new contract extension are introduced by Manchester City chiefs.
Reports have stated the England winger’s camp is growing frustrated at what they perceive as the hierarchy at the Etihad dragging their heels, despite the 23-year-old having nearly three years left to run on his present £180,000-per-week deal.
Sterling’s camp have seen Kevin De Bruyne and David Silva sign lucrative extensions and believe their man should be following suit.
City insiders, however, have stated the club don’t feel they need to be rushed and that Sterling, who has scored 20 goals this season, must bide his time until the end of the campaign.
Real Madrid are long-time admirers of the former Liverpool man but City are unconcerned by reports the Spanish giants are closely monitoring his situation, with the feeling Sterling is more than happy in his present surroundings.
The intention is to sit down with the player, including team-mates Gabriel Jesus and Leroy Sane before they head off to the World Cup finals in Russia, with pay rises on the agenda for the trio.
Sterling’s performances have won over boss Pep Guardiola and City will look at a deal which would keep him at the club until 2023.
