CLAUDE PUEL wants to use the Arsene Wenger masterplan and manage Southampton in the Premier League for 20 years.
Saints boss Puel learnt from Wenger when their paths crossed during the Arsenal chief’s seven year stint at Monaco.
Puel has promised St Mary’s fans not to walk out like predecessors Ronald Koeman and Mauricio Pochettino – and wants to follow for Wenger’s example in longevity.
The Frenchman will face his mentor for the first time today and said: “In the past, I trained for six years at Lille, three years at Lyon and four at Nice and as a player I spent 25 years at the same club. It’s important for me to respect clubs and contracts.
“But to stay for the same time at the same club like Arsene Wenger – difficult!
“I think he’s a very good manager and also because his work is not just the present but always to build something – a club, a collective. I am the same, it is not just for the next game but for the future.
“I like to work for a long time and all my work is not just for one year but to develop and work with players as a collective.”
