It is no longer news that Kenneth Omeruo says he is enjoying club football with LaLiga Santander side CD Leganes. The latest, rather, is the Nigerian’s worry of how the club will remain in the Spanish top flight.
The Nigeria defender is on a season-long loan at Leganes and hopes to make a permanent move to the club from Chelsea, who have always given him out since he joined the English Premiership side in January 2012.
However, Leganes’ performance this term has been a source of concern to Omeruo.

Currently the LaLiga side, in 19 matches, have been able to amass 22 points – just three points above the relegation zone on the table. And just on Wednesday night, Leganes were knocked out of the Copa del Rey. Though they won the return leg 1-0, they lost out 1-3 on aggregate to Real Madrid.
They face a tough fixture in the LaLiga on Sunday with a visit to Barcelona at Nou Camp.
Futbol Picante, a Spanish soccer programme on Fox TV quoted Omeruo as saying that he is happy playing in the Spanish league and would love to stay with Leganes on a permanent deal in the future but the club’s current position on the table may shatter his future dreams.
With regular club football, Omeruo believes he can play himself back into reckoning and tie down a permanent shirt in the Nigeria national team, as Gernot Rohr tinkers with the team ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations in June.

Spanish soccer journalist Guillem Balague recently described Omeruo as one of the best African defenders in the LaLiga, adding that it would be nice if Leganes can make his deal permanent.
With the full 90 minutes he played in the Copa del Rey second leg Round of 16 on Wednesday, the former Standard Liege of Belgium player has chalked up 1031 minutes in the colours of Leganes.
