Coaches should be valued as much as players ―Bayern coach

Throughout recent years, the transfer window has spiralled into a crazy world of high prices for average players and absurd prices for the better ones, according to Bayern manager,

The likes of Paul Pogba, Gareth Bale and the most expensive purchase of them all, Neymar, have garnered at least 100 million in their transfers.

But, what if managers began to cost more than they do, thus putting on the same level, at least in terms of value, as their players? That’s something new Bayern Munich coach Niko Kovac would indeed love to see as he indicated to Bild.

“I’d like to see higher transfer fees for coaches. That would give a coach better odds of surviving longer. If you spend a lot of money on someone, you do not want to quickly lose it again.

“You can easily see where the Croat is coming from. This summer alone, clubs like Chelsea, Arsenal, Real Madrid, and Bayern themselves, have brought in a new manager. This time next summer, it wouldn’t exactly be a surprise if any of these clubs found themselves hunting for a new head coach following a quick dismissal of the current boss.

“Long-term managers are a thing of the past, but if coaches cost significantly more, then would clubs be forced to stick with them for longer?

“The answer probably leans towards the “yes” side. Clubs are hesitant to splash the cash for a quality player who is worth a hefty amount in this market, as they lack the resources to make a suitable offer. It means the players they already have are more likely to remain and continue to fight for their position, and if the managerial market was in a similar way, you can be sure that stability would begin to seep its way back into football.

“However, having said that, and as Kovac claims himself, players will always be “more important than coaches because they have to perform on the pitch.”
