… backs Team Nigeria’s Para Athletes
President of the Paralympic Committee of Nigeria (PCN), Mr Sunday Odebode, has commended the leadership of the National Sports Commission (NSC), led by Chairman Mallam Shehu Dikko and Director General Hon. Bukola Olopade, for the support provided to Nigeria’s para athletes ahead of the Commonwealth Games.
Speaking exclusively with Sporting Tribune on Wednesday via telephone chat, Odebode described the level of preparation and support received by the athletes as unprecedented, saying para sports in Nigeria have never enjoyed such quality of backing before a major international competition.
“Para sports and other sports have never had it this good in preparing for a major competition. I must use this opportunity to sincerely thank the Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Mallam Shehu Dikko, and the Director General, Hon. Bukola Olopade, for this remarkable gesture,” he said.
According to Odebode, the support from the NSC began even before the team’s departure, continued during the pre-Games training camp in Aberdeen, Scotland, where the athletes had access to world-class training facilities and an environment conducive to optimal preparation.
“The support has been outstanding, from the period before the training camp in Aberdeen to the camp itself, where the athletes were provided with world-class facilities to prepare for the Games. The Commission has done everything possible to ensure the athletes are ready,” he said.
As the Commonwealth Games get underway, Odebode said the responsibility now rests with the athletes to repay the confidence reposed in them through outstanding performances.

“Now that the Games have begun, it is time for the athletes to pay back the confidence shown in them. I believe that with the prayers and support of Nigerians, our para athletes and other members of the Team Nigeria will deliver the expected gold medals and many other podium finishes for the country,” he added.
