Courtois has conceded 48 goals this season

Real Madrid’s 2018/19 season has been a nightmare and one that hit a new low with a 3-1 defeat to Real Sociedad on Sunday evening, a result which highlighted Thibaut Courtois’ struggles as he conceded his 48th goal of the campaign.

Whilst Los Blancos didn’t cover themselves in any glory defensively at Anoeta, Courtois didn’t get anywhere near any of the three goals which went past him, including the second where he slipped, preventing him from being able to stop a looping header from going towards the far post.

What’s bizarre about Courtois’ form is that he arrived in the Spanish capital after having been the best goalkeeper at the 2018 World Cup.

Yet, those in power at the club don’t doubt that the former Atletico Madrid stopper will be the club’s future for years to come. Zinedine Zidane has yet to fully back the Belgian in public, amidst suspicions he still believes Keylor Navas should be first choice.

Zidane has, though, gone as far to say there will be no debate about Los Merengues’ first-choice goalkeeper next term, although he refused to give a name.
