The President of Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVF), Engineer Nimrod Musa says sports development has called President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to consider creation of the Sports Development Ministry, stating that sports development is a passion he has developed over the years.
According to him, “it affords those who have skills in a particular sport or sports to showcase it and even blossom if well managed”.
Engr. Nimrod disclosed this in an interview with Sporting Tribune in Yola ahead of the 5th edition of YSFON under 20 inter-ward football competition in the Hong local area of Adamawa state. He said sports development can bring peace and progress in the local communities, states, the country and the world at large.
“In the next one month, Africans will be glued to their TV sets to follow the Africa cup of Nations competition taking place in Ivory Coast, there will be no time to think of fighting, even those who have issues will put it aside and unite for one goal ‘victory’ , this what sports can bring aside the financial gains”
“I want to sincerely appeal to President Bola Tinubu to create the Ministry of Sports Development, it will help in developing our sports industry and generate lots of revenue for our country, the athletes and players will also be earning money to take care of themselves, immediate family and sometimes their friends without waiting for government”.
The civil engineering trained sports administrator noted that over 500 youths have benefited from his sports development programs across all sports in Nigeria over the years.
“Some of them are playing abroad, some in our National teams and some of them have started giving back to their communities and I feel very fulfilled”.
Engr. Nimrod called on well meaning Nigerians to invest in sports development, stressing that its impact is better imagined.
“Sports development should not be left in the hands of government alone, the private sector and individuals must come together to develop our country
The annual grassroots football competition which kicks off on Monday in Adamawa state will continue to identify talents that will be nurtured, adding that “it will cut across all sports both in Adamawa and other parts of our country”.
