Sports, catalyst for development — Volleyball president, Nimrod

The President of the Volleyball Federation of Nigeria (BFN), Musa Nimrod says sports is a catalyst that propels all-round development in the country.

Nimrod stated this in an interview with sports journalists in Yola at the closing ceremony of the maiden edition of Beach Volleyball Xmas Bang.

He noted that sports is one factor that does not discriminate and provides economic security for the athletes their families and the community.

Nimrod who is also the President of Confederation Africa Beach Volleyball commended Governor Ahamadu Umar Finitri for reconstructing the long abandoned stadium along Numan road in the state capital.

He said, “The work so far done on the stadium is so great that when fully completed it will not only help the athletes to develop themselves to greater heights but also generate huge revenue for the state.

“From what I saw and the quality of work done so far, as an engineer, I can tell you, this stadium in Yola can host national and international matches.”

He congratulated the Adamawa Handball and Adamawa Volleyball teams for gaining promotions to play in the just concluded Zenith Bank premiership and Nigeria Customs Volleyball division one premiership competitions.

Noting that with good training facilities and encouragement from government, corporate organisations and individuals those Adamawa state and Nigeria-born athletes will want to identify with home.

He praised the remarkable contributions of the Volleyball Association chairman in Adamawa state, DCP Stephen Hasso (rtd)to the growth of Volleyball, highlighting the wealth of talent and expertise emerging from the Xmas Beach Volleyball Bang.

He urged the players to not relent in their pursuit of stardom stressing that there is so much to gain and achieve in sports.
