Superstar forward will pocket £86m a year and become the sport’s first billionaire following new contracts with Real Madrid and Nike
CRISTIANO RONALDO will become the first footballer to pocket €100million (£86m) a year and the sport’s first ever billionaire thanks to two new mega-money deals.
The Real Madrid superstar forward renewed contracts with the Spanish club and retail giant Nike earlier this month.
His lifetime contract with the sportswear manufacturers is worth an astonishing £1billion in itself.
And a new Real deal will see him rake in £500,000 a week.
Those two agreements will push the Portuguese sensation into uncharted waters as he becomes football’s first billionaire, according to the Sunday Times.
Ronaldo’s burgeoning business empire also includes two hotels at present, underwear, CR7 blankets, facial fitness devices and shampoo, to name but a few.
The Euro 2016 winner’s Real contract was extended from four years to five at the 31-year-old’s behest.
He has called it his “penultimate contract”, meaning he is still eyeing another despite the current one keeping him at the Bernabeu until he is 36.
But with performance-related bonuses, the Sunday Times claims the deal will see Ronaldo gross more than €50m (£43m) a year.
His lifetime agreement with Nike is the company’s first with a footballer.
Bosses are aiming for the tie-up to even eclipse their bank-breaking deal with basketball legend Michael Jordan because of Ronaldo’s “greater global popularity” and his status as the most followed sportsman on social media.
