Founder, CrossGreek Golf Course, Ilado-Akure, Akure, Ondo State, Mr Shola Abidakun has charged private organisation and individuals to invest more on golf so as to compete with other sports.
Abidakun, who has just sited golf course at Akure township area said he opened the Course in the area for the development of the town looking at the economic and tourism potential of having a golf course in a state capital like Akure.
He said “We have Smoking Hills at Ilara-Mokin which is of few minutes drive to Akure and there another one at Idanre but unfortunately it has not seen the light of the day despite the huge expenses the government has sunk into it.

“Presently at CrossGreek Golf Course, we have nine holes which is going to be all Green, we are working very hard to ensure that before the end of this year, we have all the 9 Greens playable.
“When you look at Golf, for me, the private sectors must be partners in progress because they have the potential to advertise their products, sale their products and have the ability to sponsor tournaments.
“Sometimes, it might be part of their Corporate Social Responsibilities (CSR) by giving back to the society and when they do that a lot of people become aware of what they are doing, and there is a lot of companies who are doing very well in Nigeria that people don’t even know but through the advent of sponsorship of Golf tournaments, people would now become more aware of what they are doing and it will raise their income level too,” he said.
