Delta 2022: Igali promises Team Bayelsa each gold medallist N200,000

Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development in Bayelsa State, Honourable Daniel Igali has promised to reward each gold medallist at the ongoing 21st National Sports Festival with N200,000 cash rewards.

Igali while speaking with journalists expressed optimism that Team Bayelsa is well-prepared to shine at Delta 2022, saying the largesse is to motivate the athletes to compete for medals in every event.

The Sydney 2000 Olympic wrestling gold medallist disclosed that the allowances and entitlements of the athletes have been paid, as he also adopted the cash incentives policy to further boost the morale of the athletes.

“The sum of N200,000 is for every gold medal won as N100,000 goes for a silver medal while bronze medallists will get N50,000 each.
“This is aside the normal government’s reward for the athletes who have made the state proud,” Igali who is also the President of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation said.

Recall Oluwasesan Abodunrin gave Team Bayelsa its first gold medal in the men’s taekwondo (Poomsae) while Solomon Ideriah also won gold for Team Bayelsa in golf.
